Aditi Tiwari: Candidate for the Pāuatahanui General Ward

Aditi Tiwari, running for election in the Pāuatahanui General Ward, 2025.

Kia ora, my name is Aditi Tiwari, and I am standing for the Pāuatahanui General Ward in Porirua City Council. Twelve years ago, Aotearoa welcomed my whānau and me from India with open arms. Porirua is our home, and now I’m standing to serve our city and its people.

I’m the only young wāhine candidate running in Porirua this year. Porirua has the country’s highest proportion of youth, with 36% of the city’s population falling in that age bracket, it’s only fair that rangatahi have a real say in the decisions shaping their futures  because we’re the ones inheriting the decisions being made today.

I’m a Master’s student, climate action leader, community organiser, and youth advocate with experience across business, film, arts, not-for-profit, and grassroots activism. My mahi includes kaupapa like Gen-Z Aotearoa (which I co-lead), Voice of Aroha, Make It 16, and the Young Greens, all driven by a vision for a fairer, more inclusive Aotearoa.

My priorities:

• Restore our harbour and upgrade our stormwater systems—no more sewage spills or polluted moana.

• Establish a Youth Council to ensure our rangatahi have a real voice in decisions shaping their future.

• Push for climate-smart infrastructure to protect our homes, whenua, and waterways.

• Advocate for reliable public transport within our suburbs, especially during evening hours for commuters.

• Keep rates fair and make sure spending actually reflects our community’s needs.

I’m committed to working with mana whenua and ensuring rangatahi voices are heard. Council should reflect the people it serves. We need bold, young voices and new ideas shaping our future. I believe if service is beneath you, then leadership is beyond you. As your councillor, I’ll put people, climate, and our future first.
