I’m Paul Nation and I’m proud to be running for the Pauatahanui General Ward in this years election. I have been working in the rural sector for over 40 years and have been managing a farm in Judgeford for the last 16 years.
Life has taught me to work hard, be practical, solve problems and to also enjoy the moments that families bring as they grow and develop.
Setting standards and expectations of how the values of the community should be treated and heard is of high importance. I am committed to my local community and have supported and sponsored various projects over the last 16 years.
Our infrastructure is failing and I want to find out the reasons why? For instance we know the pipes are failing but why in the last 60 years since Porirua City Council was established has there been no sustainable long term maintenance plan. Why are our roads failing. Where is the quality control measures or the long term guarantees from contractors.
Where do our rates go? The cost of living is high and people and businesses are struggling. Porirua will soon be too expensive to live in. We need to encourage businesses and people back into the CBD.
We need to look after our streams, harbours and seas. We need to make sure the interaction between rural and urban both do their parts to achieve this. We want to build and expand our city but we have too many regulations and are bogged down with bureaucracy. There needs to be a balance that will bring growth into the area but will also protect the environment and waters.
I’m prepared to stand up and be a voice for both the urban and rural communities.
