Denys Latham has been recognised with the Wellington Rugby Football Union (WRFU) Lifetime Contribution Award, celebrating a decades-long commitment to the sport he loves.

The award was presented at the recent Wellington Rugby Awards Dinner, where Latham was honoured in front of family, friends, and members of the wider rugby community. The moment was described by loved ones as “priceless,” marking a significant milestone in his life of service to rugby.

Since arriving in Wellington in the late 1960s, Latham has played a quiet but impactful role in shaping local rugby culture. His involvement spans coaching, mentorship, and behind-the-scenes dedication that has left a lasting legacy across multiple generations of players.

“The positive impact you have had in rugby circles and the people you have met through rugby can’t be underestimated,” said one family member in a heartfelt tribute shared after the event.

With the season now wrapped up, Latham is taking a well-earned break, though those close to him hint he’s already thinking about the next season.

“Enjoy the off season, Coach. We’ve got another season of footy to prepare for just around the corner,” they added.
