An 18-year-old Dunedin man has been charged after allegedly making a threat against a Wellington place of worship.

He was arrested on Saturday evening and is facing one count of causing harm by posting digital communication. The man is scheduled to appear in the Dunedin District Court on Monday, 27 October.

Detective Sergeant Dean Pearce of the Dunedin CIB said enquiries are ongoing and further charges have not been ruled out.

“Police would like to thank those who contacted us with information regarding the threat, which allowed us to quickly identify and locate the alleged offender,” Pearce said.

No further details about the nature of the threat or the targeted place of worship have been released at this stage.
