Transmission Gully will be fully open to traffic over the Christmas and New Year break, with roadworks on State Highway 1 paused to allow smoother holiday travel for drivers.
All lanes will remain open from Friday, December 19, with no roadworks taking place during the busy festive period.
Contractors are scheduled to return on Monday, January 5, with maintenance work resuming overnight. From that point, drivers should expect lane closures, night-time highway closures, speed restrictions and detours through to mid-February, weather permitting.
When the highway is closed overnight, traffic will be diverted via State Highway 59 and State Highway 58.
Chip-sealing work is planned to begin in early January. During chip-seal operations, drivers will be required to travel at 30km/h to prevent loose stones from damaging vehicles.
Road users are being advised to plan ahead and allow extra travel time once work resumes in the new year.
