Drivers in Porirua and northern Wellington are being urged to plan ahead this week as night closures and lane restrictions continue on Transmission Gully and surrounding state highways.
According to NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi and the Wellington Transport Alliance, a series of weather-dependent works are scheduled between January 10 and 16 as part of ongoing maintenance and safety upgrades.
On State Highway 1, Transmission Gully, multiple northbound night closures are planned.
The northbound carriageway will be closed between Linden and the SH58 Pāuatahanui interchange from Sunday to Thursday nights, 9pm to 6am, for chipsealing and drainage works. A further northbound closure is scheduled between SH58 Pāuatahanui and Paekākāriki on Friday night from 9pm to 4.30am for chipsealing.
Several northbound lane closures are also in place. At Rainbow Bridge, lane restrictions are ongoing day and night, while between Linden and SH58 Pāuatahanui, night-time lane closures will operate from Tuesday to Friday, 9pm to 6am, for paving and chipsealing. At the Waitangirua interchange, a northbound lane is closed from 3.30pm Sunday until 3pm Thursday for drainage works.
Southbound traffic is also affected. The southbound lanes between the SH58 Pāuatahanui interchange and Linden will be closed from Sunday to Tuesday nights, 9pm to 4.30am, for chipsealing. Additional southbound lane closures for paving and chipsealing are in place between SH58 Pāuatahanui and Linden from Saturday to Wednesday, operating day and night. Lane restrictions at Battle Hill are also ongoing.
On State Highway 59 between Porirua and Kāpiti, stop-go traffic controls will be in place at Paekākāriki, between Beach Road and Ames Street, on Wednesday night from 7pm to 4.30am for streetlight pole replacement.
In Mana, lane closures are scheduled on Mana Esplanade between Acheron Road and Marina View from Monday to Wednesday, operating during the day and night, 9.30am to 5pm, for wastewater pressure pipe installation. A southbound lane closure is also planned on Mana Bridge on Tuesday night from 8pm to 4am for footpath maintenance.
Further south on State Highway 58 at Judgeford, between Moonshine Road and Flighty’s Road, an altered lane layout remains in place day and night as work continues on the SH58 project.
Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time, follow detours and temporary speed limits, and check for updates before travelling, as work schedules may change due to weather.
