Drivers travelling in Porirua, Wellington and Kāpiti are being urged to plan ahead as a busy week of state highway roadworks gets under way, including full northbound closures on State Highway 1 through Transmission Gully.
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi says works are scheduled from Friday, January 31 to Thursday, February 6, weather permitting.
The biggest disruption will be on State Highway 1, Transmission Gully, where the northbound lanes between Linden and Paekākāriki will be fully closed from Saturday through Sunday, both day and night, for chipsealing.
A lane drop will be in place from 1pm to 9pm, followed by a full closure from 9pm to 7am. Northbound traffic will be detoured via State Highway 59.
Further northbound lane closures are planned between the SH58 Pāuatahanui Interchange and Paekākāriki from Monday to Thursday nights, with altered lane layouts in place during the day from Saturday to Monday for chipseal aftercare.
At Battle Hill, a southbound lane will close on Monday night for maintenance, while both northbound and southbound lanes will close from Wednesday night into Thursday afternoon for barrier removal.
In Porirua, altered lane layouts will remain in place on SH1 at Waitangirua southbound throughout the week for paving works.
On State Highway 58 between Porirua and the Hutt Valley, stop-go traffic controls will operate overnight from Sunday to Tuesday between Moonshine Road and Flightys Road as part of the ongoing SH58 project. Altered lane layouts will remain in place day and night.
Drivers on State Highway 59 between Porirua and Kāpiti can also expect delays, with overnight stop-go controls at Paekākāriki for sign renewals and watermain upgrades, drainage works at Pukerua Bay, and lane closures along Mana Esplanade for reinstatement and manhole maintenance.
A southbound lane closure is scheduled on Paremata Bridge on Monday night for footpath works, while lane closures in both directions are planned at Mungavin Roundabout on Tuesday night for barrier repairs.
