Motorists across Porirua are being urged to allow extra travel time this week, with multiple state highway works bringing lane closures, stop-go controls and overnight shutdowns through to Friday, March 27.

NZTA Waka Kotahi says the works, across SH59, SH58 and Transmission Gully, are weather dependent and may change at short notice.

On State Highway 59, drivers travelling between Porirua and Kāpiti will see several disruptions.

In Pukerua Bay, at the southern end of Coast Rd, stop-go traffic management will operate Sunday to Thursday nights from 7pm to 5am, and during the day Monday to Friday from 9am to 4pm. Crews are carrying out drainage work and barrier renewals.

North of the Plimmerton roundabout, a southbound lane will be closed Monday to Friday from 8am to 4pm for streetlight repairs.

At Whitford Brown Ave in central Porirua, an eastbound lane closure is scheduled for Sunday night from 9pm to 4am to allow urgent median pole replacement.

On State Highway 58, significant works continue between Judgeford and Pāuatahanui.

Between Moonshine Rd and Flighty’s Rd, stop-go controls will be in place Sunday to Thursday nights from 7pm to 5.30am, alongside an altered lane layout operating day and night throughout the week as part of the ongoing safety project.

Near the Pāuatahanui roundabout, stop-and-hold traffic management will be used during peak school times from 8am to 4pm, Monday to Friday, to manage pedestrian movements around bridge and shared path works.

Several overnight closures are planned on SH58. Between Paremata Cres and Postgate Dr, the road will close Sunday night from 9pm to 4.30am.

In Whitby, between Postgate Dr and James Cook Dr, closures are scheduled for Monday and Tuesday nights. Between James Cook Dr and Joseph Banks Dr, closures will follow on Wednesday and Thursday nights. All closures run from 9pm to 4.30am.

On Transmission Gully, a southbound lane closure at Waitangirua remains in place until 5pm Saturday for resurfacing work.

NZTA is asking drivers to follow all traffic management, expect delays, and check for updates before travelling.
