Porirua drivers are being warned to expect delays, detours and overnight closures as a busy week of state highway roadworks rolls out from Saturday, March 28, to Friday, April 3.
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi says multiple projects across SH59 and SH58 will affect key commuter routes through Porirua, Pukerua Bay, Paremata and Judgeford, with traffic controls in place both day and night.
On SH59, ongoing drainage work at the southern end of Coast Rd in Pukerua Bay will see stop-go traffic management in place 24 hours a day from Sunday to Thursday.
Further north at Paekākāriki, drivers will encounter an altered lane layout between Beach Rd and Paekākāriki Link Rd from 9am Monday to 4.30pm Thursday as part of weigh bridge upgrade works.
Several overnight jobs will also affect travel through Porirua.
A southbound lane closure is scheduled between SH58 and SH59 at Paremata on Tuesday night from 7pm to 5am for streetlight pole replacement.
In central Porirua, the Whitford Brown northbound off-ramp will close Monday night from 7pm to 5am, while the Mungavin northbound on-ramp will close briefly from 11.59pm Tuesday to 2am Wednesday for paving work.
Additional overnight works on SH59 include sign replacements and streetlight upgrades between Pukerua Bay and Airlie Rd, with lane closures and stop-go controls in place at various times on Wednesday night.
On SH58, safety improvements continue through Judgeford. Stop-go traffic controls will be in place between Moonshine Rd and Flighty’s Rd from Sunday to Wednesday nights, 7pm to 5.30am, alongside an altered lane layout running day and night.
Near Pāuatahanui Bridge, west of the roundabout, drivers should also expect short daytime delays from Monday to Thursday, with stop-and-hold controls operating during peak school times to allow for off-road bridge and shared path work.
NZTA says all works are weather dependent and may change.
Drivers are advised to allow extra time, follow traffic management in place, and check conditions before travelling.
