A week-long search for a missing 73-year-old man from Masterton has ended in tragedy, with Police confirming a body believed to be John Rafferty was found on Saturday morning.
Rafferty was reported missing on 4 May. His body was discovered by a Search and Rescue team during an extensive operation coordinated in the area.
“This was not the outcome we were hoping for, but I want to thank the community for all their assistance, and the dedication of the search crews who have worked so hard over the past week,” said Sergeant Anthony Matheson.
As the death has been referred to the Coroner, Police are unable to comment further.
