Young people in Porirua are encouraged to get active and try something new at the upcoming Rangatahi Sports ‘Have A Go’ Day, taking place on Thursday, 3 July from 1:30pm to 3:30pm at Te Rauparaha Arena.
Organised by Te Rūnanga o Toa Rangatira, the free school holiday event offers rangatahi the chance to take part in a variety of sports and fitness activities, including rugby, basketball, waka ama, and boxing. There will also be interactive fitness sessions and a chill-out room for those wanting a more relaxed space to connect.
“We want to create a fun and supportive environment where young people can explore different sports, stay active, and just have a good time with their mates,” said Anita Taggart, one of the event coordinators.
Designed for rangatahi of all skill levels, the event is about giving things a go rather than competition. It’s also a way for Porirua youth to stay connected and engaged during the school holidays.
Participation is free, and young people can register by scanning the QR code on promotional materials or by emailing [email protected].
“Bring your mates and come have a go — there’s something for everyone,” Organisers say.
