Mana College’s Senior A netball team have earned promotion to the A Grade for 2026 after winning the Lower North Island Secondary Schools B Grade final.

Ranked among the bottom four teams going into the competition, the Porirua school defied expectations to claim the title, drawing praise from local leaders and sparking community pride.

Deputy Mayor Kylie Wihapi congratulated the team, calling it an “amazing achievement.” Mayor Anita Baker added her support, saying “Congratulations, well done, great achievement.”

Mana MP Barbara Edmonds also celebrated the win, highlighting the team’s underdog status and rapid rise. “Mana were ranked fourth lowest and are now promoted to the A grade,” she said. Edmonds also acknowledged Mana students playing for top-tier teams at Scots College and St Mary’s College, both of which were vying for the A Grade title.

“Our Wellington region teams are doing us all proud! Especially this māmā!” she said.

The victory ensures Mana College will compete at the highest level of the regional tournament in 2026, marking a significant milestone for the school’s netball programme.
