Voting has officially closed in the 2025 Porirua City Council elections, with preliminary results expected to begin rolling in from 3pm this afternoon.
Residents across Titahi Bay, Cannons Creek, Whitby and surrounding suburbs cast their votes over the past two weeks to decide the city’s next mayor, ward councillors, and community board members. While final results, including special votes, will not be confirmed until 16 October, today marks a crucial turning point in the city’s democratic process.
According to Porirua City Council, progress results covering around 90 percent of votes will be shared first, followed by preliminary totals on Sunday. Special votes will be the final deciding factor in closely contested races.
The election has drawn significant attention, particularly around the mayoral contest, with voters citing housing, transport, and youth services as top concerns.
Stay tuned for live updates as results become available.
