A second person has been arrested in connection with a shooting at Pukehinau Flats in Brooklyn earlier this month, Wellington Police confirmed today.
The incident occurred around 3.30pm on Sunday 2 November, when police responded to reports of an altercation at the flats. During the altercation, a firearm was discharged toward a man. While the shot missed, the victim was injured after jumping from a second-floor balcony to escape.
Detective Senior Sergeant Tim Leitch said the latest arrest involves a 22-year-old man, who was stopped by police in Palmerston North on 5 November for allegedly speeding. Officers found a shotgun in his possession, and he has since been charged in relation to the Brooklyn shooting.
The man is due to appear in Wellington District Court on 1 December 2025, facing charges of discharging a firearm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and aggravated robbery.
Earlier, on 7 November, a 34-year-old woman was also arrested over the incident. She has appeared in court and was remanded on bail to reappear on 1 December.
“We know this incident caused considerable distress to the residents of Pukehinau Flats, as well as the wider community,” said Leitch. “We are pleased to have put those believed to be responsible before the courts.”
Police are not seeking any further suspects.
