Emergency services are responding to a helicopter crash in the Paekākāriki Hill area this morning.

Police were notified about 7.30am after an automated crash alert was activated.

Search and rescue efforts are being coordinated by Rescue Coordination Centre New Zealand, with Police at the scene.

Police have set up cordons near Battle Hill Farm Forest Park as emergency crews work in the area.

A spokesperson for the Rescue Coordination Centre said two rescue helicopters and Police were involved in the response, with support from Fire and Emergency New Zealand being arranged.

Wellington Free Ambulance said it was an active scene and referred enquiries to the lead agencies.

Fire and Emergency confirmed two crews were at the scene, with appliances responding from Porirua, Johnsonville and Wellington City.

At this stage, Police have not confirmed whether there are any injuries or how many people were on board the helicopter.

Police said further information will be released as it becomes available.
