A large slip has closed Akatarawa Road between Upper Hutt and Staglands Wildlife Reserve and Cafe.
The road was expected to remain closed throughout Sunday while maintenance crews worked to clear the debris.
Staglands said visitors could still reach the reserve from the Waikanae side via State Highway 1.
The reserve apologised to customers planning to travel from Upper Hutt and said the closure had also made it difficult for some staff to get to work.
