SH58 to Close Overnight Between Transmission Gully and Haywards

State Highway 58 between Transmission Gully and the Hutt Valley will close overnight this Sunday for maintenance work.

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi says SH58 will be closed between the Transmission Gully interchange and the SH2 Haywards interchange from 9pm on Sunday 6 September until 4am on Monday 7 September.

The closure will affect one of the main routes used by motorists travelling between Porirua and the Hutt Valley.

The Wellington Transport Alliance says a range of maintenance work will be carried out during the seven-hour closure.

Traffic management will begin being installed from about 7pm on Sunday, although motorists will still have normal access until the highway closes at 9pm.

Drivers travelling between SH1 and SH2 during the closure will need to detour via Transmission Gully and SH1, through Ngauranga Gorge, before connecting with SH2.

NZTA says access will continue to be provided for residents and businesses located along SH58, as well as emergency services.

However, people living within the closed section may need to be escorted through parts of the work site because machinery and equipment will block different sections of the highway during the night.

Properties between the Transmission Gully interchange and Moonshine Road will generally need to enter from the Transmission Gully end.

Properties between Moonshine Road and the Haywards interchange will generally need to enter from the Hutt Valley end.

SH58 is a key connection between Porirua, Pāuatahanui and the Hutt Valley and is also used by motorists connecting between SH1 and SH2.

NZTA says the highway’s narrow and winding layout makes it difficult to safely carry out some maintenance work while traffic is travelling through the area.

Motorists travelling between Porirua and the Hutt Valley on Sunday night are advised to allow additional time and use the signposted detour.

The highway is scheduled to reopen at 4am on Monday 7 September.
