Titahi Bay residents are being urged to conserve water after a burst main cut the suburb’s incoming supply, leaving homes dependent on water already stored in reservoirs.
Crews have uncovered the damaged pipe near 43 Tangare Drive. Tiaki Wai said at 10.30am on Saturday 7 November that the remaining reservoir water was expected to run out within an hour, requiring supply to be shut off across Titahi Bay.
The damaged main is 225mm wide and was installed in 1963, according to the water provider’s records. The outage began at 7am.
Tiaki Wai was aiming to finish the repair by 2pm, but said a firmer restoration time would depend on how the work progressed.
Bulk water tankers have been requested. Their locations had not been confirmed in the latest notice, posted at 10.47am.
Residents who still have water are asked to reduce their use to ease pressure on the remaining supply.
For households facing a shutdown, Tiaki Wai advises avoiding hot-water use because drawing down a cylinder too far can damage it. Once water returns, slowly running an outside cold tap for a few minutes helps clear air and any debris before indoor taps and appliances are used.
Further repair and tanker updates will be available through Tiaki Wai’s live outages page. Urgent water issues can be reported on 0800 842 549.
