Porirua City Council is inviting residents to share their views on proposed updates to a group of bylaws and policies, as part of a scheduled review agreed upon at a full council meeting this week.
Four bylaws and two policies are under review, with the Council proposing only minor amendments, noting that these documents are currently operating as intended. The consultation is open until 6 June, with all documents available for public review at haveyoursay.poriruacity.govt.nz.
The bylaws under review are the Transport Bylaw, Alcohol Control Bylaw 2018, Water Supply Bylaw 2019, and Part 9 (Reserves Bylaw) of the General Bylaw 1991. The policies include the Litter Infringement Policy 2019 and the Dangerous, Affected and Insanitary Buildings Policy 2020.
Council has also revoked the Psychoactive Substances Policy (Local Approved Products Policy 2015), as there are no approved psychoactive substances available for sale in New Zealand, nor are any retailers currently permitted to sell them.
Nic Etheridge, Porirua City Council’s General Manager of Policy, Planning & Regulatory Services, said public input remains vital, even for minor updates.
“It’s an important part of the process for Council to engage with our community,” Etheridge said. “We encourage anyone who is interested to make comment during the consultation period.”
Deliberations and formal adoption of the reviewed bylaws and policies are scheduled for 31 July.
