The Titahi Bay Boating Club was buzzing with pride this week as community members gathered to celebrate the international success of Sailability Wellington sailors, with special recognition given to local athlete Xervier Doney.
Governor-General Dr Richard Davies and Porirua Mayor Anita Baker joined the event to honour the team’s achievements at the 2025 Para Sailing International Championships, part of the Hansa World Championships held at the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club in Pittwater, Australia.

Doney clinched the Hansa 303 World Championship title in the singles category and, together with his father Paul Doney, also claimed victory in the doubles — a feat that drew applause from dignitaries, supporters, and fellow sailors.

Sailability Wellington is an inclusive club that enables people of all abilities to experience the joy and challenge of sailing. The club is also developing a new class of fully accessible boat, the ParAble-Whakatauki, designed with inclusivity at its core.
Other sailors recognised at the event included Lucas Thompson, Michael Jones, Graham Hook, and Darrell Smith. Organisers gave a heartfelt thanks to the dedicated volunteers and families who support the programme.
“It’s incredible to see the talent we have right here in Porirua being recognised on the world stage,” said Mayor Baker.

The celebration highlighted not only sporting excellence but also the spirit of inclusion and community that Sailability Wellington continues to champion.
