A power pole fire in Tawa caused a minor outage and drew emergency services to the scene this Wednesday morning.
Flames were seen shooting from the base of a pole on Duncan Street, with the incident captured in a video shared by Wellington City Councillor Ben McNulty. “A bit of drama in Tawa this morning with an electrical fire on Duncan St,” McNulty posted. “Fire and Wellington Electricity are on site but power outages are likely.”
Wellington Electricity reported an outage affecting approximately 25 customers in the area. As of midday, restoration was expected to take around five hours.
A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesperson confirmed the fire had already been extinguished by the time firefighters arrived at 9.26am.
There were no reports of injuries, and crews remained on site to manage the situation and ensure public safety.
