
Wellington Police are continuing their investigation into the unexplained death of a 40-year-old man found in Newtown on Saturday evening.
Emergency services were called to a property on Mansfield Street around 7.15pm on 7 June, where Oliver Hayes was discovered deceased in an apartment. A scene examination has been completed and a post-mortem is currently underway.
Detective Inspector Nick Pritchard said enquiries are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding Mr Hayes’ death. “We are committed to understanding what has happened and are continuing our investigation,” Pritchard said.
Residents in Newtown may notice an increased police presence in the area as officers continue gathering information.
Police are appealing to anyone who knew Mr Hayes or had contact with him in the days leading up to Saturday to come forward. Investigators are particularly interested in speaking with residents of the apartment complex who may have seen Mr Hayes recently.
