Porirua City Council has adopted the Local Alcohol Policy (LAP) 2025, aimed at reducing alcohol-related harm while balancing the needs of the hospitality industry.
Key changes include:
- Off-licence premises (e.g., bottle stores, supermarkets) can only sell alcohol between 9am–9pm
- No new off-licences allowed in Porirua East, Titahi Bay, Elsdon, Takapūwāhia, Kenepuru, or the CBD unless strongly justified
- New or renewed licences within 100 metres of sensitive sites (e.g., schools, treatment centres) require an impact assessment
🗓 Effective Date: 18 July 2025
🕘 Off-licence trading hours change from 5 January 2026
