Kia ora, I’m Claire Johnstone.
I’m standing for the Greater Wellington Regional Council because I care deeply about our region’s future. Council decisions shape our everyday lives – from water management and public transport to protecting our harbours, planning river catchments, and preparing for emergencies. They make decisions for the good of the region.
These services aren’t luxuries. They’re the essentials that keep communities safe, land productive, and people connected. It’s about resilience, foresight, and long- term planning.
As a long-term Porirua resident, I’ve raised my family here and actively contributed to our community through the arts and public service. I bring proven leadership experience across business, central and local government, along with:
• Governance expertise
• Independent thinking
• Sound judgement
• Deep regional knowledge
I will work hard to ensure our region is prepared, protected, and governed with integrity. That means decisions that reflect our priorities and values — and leadership that’s transparent, principled, and accountable.
I’ll advocate for:
- Reliable, affordable public transport and well-connected systems for people and goods.
- Improved water resilience, supply, and long-term sustainability
- Protection and restoration of waterways and Te Awarua-o-Porirua Harbour and especially the Pauatahanui Inlet
- Coordinated emergency management — prepared, protected, supported
- Responsible and accountable development that allows growth while protecting what we value
- Wise investment decisions with long-term benefits
- Rates that deliver tangible results — visible in daily life
This election is about leadership that shows up, listens, acts, and delivers. I’m ready to serve our region with integrity and purpose.
