Porirua Roadwatch: This Week’s Closures, Detours, Delays

Night works on SH59 and SH58 to impact Porirua drivers, with closures at Paremata, Titahi Bay, and Mungavin on-ramp.

Porirua drivers are being urged to brace for night-time disruptions on State Highway 59 and SH58 this week, as the Wellington Transport Alliance rolls out a busy schedule of roadworks from 15 to 21 November.

Key routes in and out of Porirua will be affected, including multiple on-ramp closures and lane restrictions. All work is weather dependent and may be postponed in the event of poor conditions.

At Pukerua Bay, crews will be replacing streetlight poles on Sunday night from 7pm to 5am, with stop/go traffic controls between Wairaka Road and Gray Street. Commuters using this stretch are advised to expect minor delays.

A more significant disruption will occur at the Paremata roundabout, which will be completely closed southbound on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, from 9pm to 4.30am. Detours will be in place, and motorists should plan alternate routes if travelling toward Wellington.

Titahi Bay residents will also be affected, with the northbound on-ramp closed briefly overnight from 11.59pm to 4am on Sunday for the installation of traffic counting loops.

Further south, the Mungavin Avenue on-ramp in Porirua will be closed to southbound traffic on Thursday night, from 9pm to 4.30am, while paving crews complete resurfacing work.

On SH58 near Whitby, the Spinnaker Drive sideroad remains closed day and night throughout the week due to a slip. Turn lanes onto SH58 are currently blocked as safety assessments and repairs continue.

Across SH58, between Judgeford and the Transmission Gully interchange, drivers will face overnight stop/go controls on Sunday and Monday nights, alongside ongoing day and night lane shifts as part of the region’s safety upgrade programme.

Local authorities are reminding drivers to slow down near work zones, follow signage, and allow extra time for their journeys.
