Police are investigating the death of a woman in the Kāpiti Coast area.
Detective Inspector Jamie Woods, Wellington Field Crime Manager, said police acknowledged this would be an incredibly difficult time for the family and support was being provided.
A man has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Further charges are being considered.
He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear in District Court.
The investigation into the circumstances of the death is continuing, with the primary scene examination expected to be completed in the coming days.
Several search warrants were executed on Tuesday as part of the inquiry, and residents can expect to see an increased police presence across the Kāpiti area.
Woods said Police wanted to reassure the community there was no ongoing risk to public safety following the incident.
Police are appealing for information from anyone who may be able to help with their enquiries.
