Metlink is adding extra trains and bus capacity this weekend to help fans get to and from two major fixtures in Wellington.
Additional services will run for the Super Rugby clash between the Hurricanes and Moana Pasifika at 7.05pm on Friday, February 20, and the A-League derby between the Wellington Phoenix and Auckland FC at 5pm on Saturday, February 21.
Public transport provider Metlink said it is increasing capacity on key rail lines and deploying larger buses to reduce congestion and ease pressure on roads around Sky Stadium and the wider CBD.
On Friday night, the Hutt Valley, Kāpiti and Johnsonville lines will run with extra capacity added to services after the Hurricanes match.
On Saturday, those same lines will have additional services running both before and after the Phoenix game.
The Wairarapa Line will operate on its usual timetable. The last service will leave Wellington Station at 10.25pm on Friday and 6.55pm on Saturday.
Core bus routes will also have increased capacity across the network. The East by West ferry will run at standard operating times.
Metlink is encouraging passengers to plan ahead and travel early. Fans are advised to use a Snapper card to tag on and off to access discounted fares rather than paying cash.
