ANZAC STORY 2026

Porirua marks ANZAC Day across city

Communities across Porirua will come together on Saturday, April 25, to mark ANZAC Day and remember those who served and sacrificed in war, conflict and peacekeeping operations.

ANZAC Day remains one of New Zealand’s most significant days of remembrance. It is a time to reflect on courage, service and loss, and to honour returned and current New Zealand Defence Force personnel.

Services will be held across the city, including dawn, civic and community commemorations.

Porirua RSA will hold a dawn service at its McKillop Street clubrooms. The RSA premises open at 5 a.m., with people assembling in the Mungavin car park at 5.45 a.m. The parade begins at 5.50 a.m. and the dawn service starts at 6 a.m. The Porirua RSA is at 5-7 McKillop St. For more information, phone 04 237 7695.

Titahi Bay RSA will also hold a dawn service, beginning at 6.30 a.m. at 74 Main Rd. A citizens parade will follow later in the morning, starting from Whitehouse Road at 10.30 a.m. The public, members and their families are invited to attend. For more information, phone 04 236 7955.

Porirua City’s civic service will be held at the Peace Memorial at Te Rauparaha Park, beginning at 9 a.m. Seating will be available from 8.30 a.m. and those taking part in the march are asked to gather at Hagley Street from 8.45 a.m.

In Pāuatahanui, a memorial service will be held at St Alban’s Church from 10.15 a.m., followed by the laying of wreaths at the Pāuatahanui War Memorial.

Takapūwahia Marae will host a service starting at 10.30 a.m.

Pukerua Bay RSA has planned a full day of commemorations. Proceedings begin at 8 a.m. with a stand-to-attention, flag raising and recitations of Binyon’s Lines at the RSA, 5-7 Wairaka Rd. A community service follows at 11 a.m. at St Mark’s Church, 98 Rawhiti Rd, before a Last Post and wreath-laying ceremony at Whenua Tapu Cemetery’s Wall of Remembrance at noon.

Residents are being encouraged to attend their local service and join in remembering those who served.
