Wellington Police are appealing for information following the assault of a woman on the Rangituhi/Colonial Knob walking track in Porirua on Wednesday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 3:30pm on 18 June, halfway up the popular trail, prompting concerns among the local community. Detective Sergeant Ben Evans of the Wellington District CIB confirmed Police are investigating and have launched reassurance patrols in the area.
“This is a deeply concerning incident, and Police are offering support to the victim, who is understandably shaken,” Evans said.
Police are pursuing positive lines of enquiry but are urging the public to assist in identifying the alleged offender. The man was last seen wearing a dark-coloured long sleeve top, dark-coloured track pants, and a cap.
Authorities are asking anyone who was in the area at the time or has footage matching the suspect’s description to contact Police. Reports can be made via 105, referencing file number 250618/1395. Anonymous tips can also be shared through Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
“We’d also like to remind people to be vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour to Police,” Evans said. “Call 111 if it is happening now, or 105 if it is after the fact.”
Rangituhi/Colonial Knob is a well-used walking route in Porirua, and Police hope that public awareness and vigilance will help ensure safety and assist in progressing the investigation.
