Porirua businesses sold more than $600,000 worth of Burger Wellington burgers during August, more than tripling the value of sales recorded two years ago.
Porirua City Council says 21,595 burgers were sold across the city during Visa Wellington On a Plate, generating $602,498 in direct burger sales.
That compares with $364,415 in 2025 and $197,732 in 2024. The figures do not include spending on drinks, sides or other purchases.
Nineteen Porirua businesses took part in Burger Wellington this year, while five other Wellington On a Plate events were held in the city.
Two Porirua businesses also finished among the top five Burger Wellington entries across the region.
Elemental Eats in Kenepuru placed third overall from 245 entries and was the highest-ranked Porirua burger, while Sushil’s Musclechef Café in Aotea also made the regional top five.
Sushil’s Wellington On a Plate festival event, A Culinary Tale of India, was the first festival event to sell out.
Porirua businesses made up about 8 per cent of the 245 Burger Wellington entries.
The council said participating businesses reported attracting customers from elsewhere in the Wellington region and further afield during the campaign.
