Tokomanawa Queens are still searching for their first win of the Tauihi season after Mainland Pouākai powered to a 114-77 victory at Te Rauparaha Arena on Sunday night.
The Queens struggled to contain a Pouākai side whose height and shooting proved decisive in front of the Porirua home crowd.
Porirua Mayor Anita Baker described it as a tough night for the Queens and said the absence of captain Stella Beck was felt on court.
She also thanked the large crowd that turned out to support the home side at Te Rauparaha Arena.
The result follows the Queens’ 75-69 opening-round loss to Northern Kāhu in Porirua last weekend.
Tokomanawa had started strongly against Kāhu, but were unable to convert that performance into their first win when Pouākai came to town.
The Queens will now look to regroup before their next home game against Tauranga Whai at Te Rauparaha Arena on Friday 16 October at 7.30pm.
