Porirua City Council has begun essential tree removal work along Grays Road this week, aiming to protect key infrastructure and prepare the area for native restoration.
The work, which started earlier this week, is set to continue through to Friday, 13 June, with operating hours from 7am to 6pm daily. Council officials say the trees identified for removal are located on a roadside bank that poses a risk to the road and nearby power lines.
“We apologise for any inconvenience while this necessary work is carried out,” the Council said in a statement.
Once removed, the trees are being chipped and the material repurposed as mulch in Council-maintained gardens across the city.
Restoration of the site will follow immediately after removal. The bank will be hydromulched and seeded with native plants. Later, low-growing native species will be planted to stabilise the slope and support local biodiversity.
This initiative is part of Porirua’s broader efforts to maintain infrastructure safety while enhancing native vegetation across the region.
