A dedicated team of seven Porirua firefighters has surpassed a major fundraising milestone, raising over $10,000 for Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand (LBCNZ) ahead of this weekend’s Sky Tower Stair Challenge.

After months of community efforts, including local bucket shakes and individual fundraising, the team announced they had reached their goal just days before the event on Saturday, 24 May. Their final collection at Woolworths Porirua brought in $697.90, pushing them past the $10,000 mark.

“That’s a huge achievement for a team of just seven firefighters,” the team shared online. “Your amazing donations will help those suffering. Thank you for your continued support.”
The Sky Tower Stair Challenge will see participants climb 1,103 steps of Auckland’s iconic tower in full firefighting gear. While the physical challenge lies ahead, supporters agree the toughest part—raising funds—has already been a resounding success.
For those wanting to contribute, donations are still being accepted at firefighterschallenge.org.nz.
