Black Sticks Inspire Aotea College Students

Aotea College students were treated to a special hockey session on Sunday when the Nations Cup Trophy tour stopped in Wellington. The event, part of a nationwide celebration by Hockey New Zealand and Vantage, brought elite players Finn Ward and Rhi Pho to town to share their expertise.

The visit was a prize from the Vantage Stick Skills Roadie Giveaway, which Aotea College won earlier this year. Students had the unique chance to learn techniques directly from their Black Sticks heroes in a fun, interactive workshop.

“This was an unforgettable day for our young players,” said a school representative. “Having national stars take the time to support grassroots hockey really shows the strength of our sporting community.”

The session aimed to both inspire and develop skills among young athletes, reinforcing the importance of dedication, teamwork, and passion in sport.

Organisers expressed gratitude to Hockey New Zealand and Vantage for bringing the event to Wellington, giving Porirua’s rising talent a memorable boost on their sporting journey.
