Pataka welcomes new Kaiako Educator

Con Noema, Porirua City Council’s Māori Strategic Coordinator, welcomed Miriama Karena Te One (Ngāti Mutunga, Te Ātiawa) and her whanau this morning, as the new Kaiako Educator to the Pataka team.

Miriama comes to Pataka from Paekākāriki School, where she was teaching for three years. Before that, she had held Policy positions at Te Arawhiti, formerly the Office for Māori Crown Relations (Te Tari Whakatau, The Office of Treaty Settlements and Takutai Moana), and administrative roles for the Education Council NZ.

Miriama has a Bachelor’s in Mātauranga Māori and Education from Te Herenga Waka Victoria University of Wellington. From Te Wānanga o Aotearoa, Miriama also has Te Rōnakitanga ki te Reo Kairangi, a NZ Diploma in Te Reo (Rumaki) (Level 5), and a Certificate in Rongoā (Level 4). She has a portfolio of additional qualifications and interests that include involvement with the Māori Women’s Welfare League, weaving with Te Roopu Raranga o Manaia, and is currently promoting te ao Māori through clay, as an uku artist.
