Pātaka Art + Museum will next week open a new exhibition marking the 50th anniversary of the 1975 Land March, a landmark protest against the ongoing loss of Māori land.

Not One More Acre: Remembering the 1975 Land March runs from 16 August to 19 October 2025 at the Bottle Creek Gallery. The march, led by Dame Whina Cooper and Te Rōpū o te Matakite, travelled the length of the North Island, uniting people in a call to halt further alienation of Māori land.

The exhibition acknowledges the manaakitanga of Ngāti Toa and reflects on moments of resilience, solidarity, and preparation before the march’s final arrival at Parliament. It will feature historical images and stories, including a photograph of hangi stones used to feed marchers, held in the Alexander Turnbull Library’s collection.

Ngāti Toa’s Te Rūnanga o Toa Rangatira has been closely involved in shaping the commemorations. Further information and resources are available on Pātaka’s website: https://pataka.org.nz/
