Porirua commuters face more delays as SH58, Pukerua Bay works ramp up

Roadworks across Porirua are set to intensify this week, with the Wellington Transport Alliance continuing upgrades and maintenance that will affect multiple key routes, including SH58, Transmission Gully, and local roads in Pukerua Bay.

From Sunday night, line marking along Moonshine Road between Judgeford and Flighty’s Road will involve stop/go traffic control from 7pm to 5.30am. At the same time, altered lane layouts will continue both day and night through to Friday along SH58, between Judgeford and Transmission Gully, as part of the ongoing SH58 Safety Project.

In Whitby, Spinnaker Drive remains impacted by sideroad closures due to slip repairs, with turn lanes from SH58 closed. A full closure of the road from James Cook Drive to Paremata (SH59) is also scheduled for Sunday night, 9pm to 4am, for resurfacing and general maintenance.

Transmission Gully’s northbound lane will be closed between the Linden and SH58 (Pāuatahanui) interchanges on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, 9pm to 4.30am, while contractors install barriers for summer maintenance. Drivers will be detoured via SH59 and SH58.

The southbound lane of Transmission Gully will also be closed from Friday at 6pm to Monday, 10 November at 6am for drainage work.

Elsewhere, the Wellington Urban Motorway will see a southbound lane closure on Wednesday night from 7pm to 11.30pm to allow for streetlight pole replacement.

In Pukerua Bay, stop/go traffic controls will be in place north of Pa Road on Tuesday night from 7pm to 5am while streetlight poles are replaced. On Sunday night, altered lane layouts will be in place between Pa Road and Teihana Road from 9pm to 5am as traffic-counting rubber tubes are installed.

Closer to the city centre, the Mungavin Interchange will have both northbound and southbound lane closures at the top of the roundabout on Tuesday night from 8pm to 4am for guardrail repairs.

Motorists are urged to allow extra travel time, follow detour signs, and keep up with the latest updates from Waka Kotahi and the Wellington Transport Alliance.
