Paremata-Plimmerton’s bid for a home-title finish fell just short after the hosts were beaten 19–12 by Hutt Old Boys Marist in the National Club Sevens final at Ngāti Toa Domain on Saturday.
The all-Wellington decider capped a full day of rugby at the Porirua venue, with a large crowd turning out to support a tournament that continues to grow in size and profile.
Paremata-Plimmerton led the hosting duties, welcoming clubs from around the country to Ngāti Toa Domain in fine, breezy conditions. The club advanced to the final after topping its pool and winning through the quarter-finals, setting up a highly anticipated local showdown.

The final was tight throughout. Hutt Old Boys Marist led 12–5 shortly after halftime as Paremata-Plimmerton applied sustained pressure inside the opposition 22. A handling error proved costly, with Rupeni Raviyawa scooping up the loose ball and racing away to score a long-range try that swung momentum.

Paremata-Plimmerton refused to fade, staying in contention through strong defensive efforts, particularly from Jeremiah Avei-Collins, whose breakdown work repeatedly turned defence into attack. One of those moments led to a try by Caleb Alaga in the corner, but Hutt held on to seal the match.

While the result was a disappointment for the hosts, the tournament was widely seen as a success for the club and the wider Porirua community. Ngāti Toa Domain was busy throughout the day, with families, club supporters and travelling teams filling the sidelines and creating a festival atmosphere.
The event ran smoothly and drew praise for its organisation, with local volunteers and officials playing a key role. Community groups were well represented in the crowd, adding to the colour and energy of the day.
With strong attendance, competitive rugby and positive feedback from visiting teams, organisers expect the National Club Sevens to return bigger again next year, further cementing Ngāti Toa Domain as a major stage for rugby in Porirua.
