Citizens Advice Bureau Porirua has unveiled a new online platform, kōnae.org.nz, designed to help individuals and whānau access personal records related to historic abuse in state or church care.
The website was developed in response to community requests for a trusted and independent resource for navigating the often-complex process of locating and understanding historic care records. Kōnae provides clear guidance on what records might exist, how to request them, who holds them, and what to expect from the process.
“This is an important step in supporting those affected by past injustices,” the CAB Porirua team said in a statement. “Kōnae empowers individuals by giving them tools to understand their rights and access their own histories.”
The platform also offers advice on what to do if users are unhappy with the records they receive or the process itself, and provides links to further support services.
CAB Porirua is located at the BNZ Tower, 14 Hartham Place North, Porirua City Centre, and can be reached at 04 237 8846 or [email protected]. For more information, visit porirua.cab.org.nz or follow them on Facebook and Instagram @cab_porirua.
