Kapreez Kingi from Porirua College proudly stood beside her own carving this morning at the He Ringa Toi – Māori Art exhibition at Te Papa.
The exhibition, which celebrates young Māori artists, featured Kingi’s work among other student contributions from across Aotearoa. Her piece was displayed prominently, marking a significant moment for both her and her whānau, who attended the special event in support.

Porirua College staff said they were incredibly proud of Kingi’s achievement, noting the dedication and creativity she brought to her mahi toi. The He Ringa Toi exhibition, run in partnership with NZQA, highlights excellence in secondary school Māori art and gives students the opportunity to have their work recognised on a national stage.
