A Porirua family has lost their home after a house fire on Wednesday afternoon.

Members of the public raised the alarm and helped those inside the house to safety before fire crews arrived. No injuries were reported.

Career and volunteer firefighters worked together to bring the blaze under control.

Crews attended from Porirua Fire Brigade and Titahi Bay Fire Brigade, along with crews from Johnsonville and Thorndon. A breathing apparatus tender responded from Remutaka, supported by Wellington City’s Command Unit and Wellington Volunteer Fire Support.

The cause of the fire has not been confirmed.

The New Zealand Professional Firefighters Union said, “Our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.”
