Motorists travelling through Porirua and the wider Wellington region face overnight closures, ramp shutdowns and a speed limit change on Transmission Gully over the coming week.
The Wellington Transport Alliance says roadworks are scheduled from 14 to 20 February, weather permitting, across State Highways 1, 58 and 59.
On State Highway 1 Transmission Gully, there will be a full overnight closure between Paekākāriki and SH58 at Pāuatahanui on Friday night. Northbound lanes close from 9pm to 7am, and southbound from 9pm to 4.30am.
The Waitangirua southbound off-ramp will reopen at 8pm on Saturday 14 February after pavement reconstruction works. However, a southbound lane will remain closed from Saturday to Monday, day and night.
The Waitangirua northbound on-ramp will close from 7am on Thursday 19 and remain closed day and night on Friday 20 February. Northbound lane closures are also planned from Saturday to Monday and again on Thursday and Friday for pavement works.
Between Paekākāriki and Linden, there will be various northbound and southbound lane closures from Sunday to Thursday, 7pm to 5am, for line marking.
In a separate change, the Minister of Transport has confirmed the speed limit on Transmission Gully will increase to 110kmh from 12.01am on Monday 16 February. Temporary speed limits will remain in place around Waitangirua due to ongoing works.
Elsewhere on State Highway 1, drivers can expect night closures of the Arras Tunnel on Tuesday from 9pm to 4.30am and the Mt Victoria Tunnel on Monday from 9pm to 4.30am for maintenance. There will also be a southbound lane closure on the urban motorway between Aotea Quay and Hill Street on Tuesday night for streetlight pole replacement.
On Sunday, Kilbirnie will see a full road closure between Evans Bay Parade and the Kilbirnie Crescent and Hamilton Road intersection from 7.15am to 12.30am for the Round the Bays event. A southbound lane near the Basin Reserve will close Sunday night for gas leak repairs.
On State Highway 59 between Porirua and Kāpiti, the Paekākāriki Link Road will be closed northbound from 5am on Monday and Friday for weighbridge works. Stop go traffic controls will be in place between Beach Road and Paekākāriki Link Road from Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 3.30pm, for a watermain upgrade.
At Pukerua Bay Hill, stop hold controls will operate Monday and Tuesday from 9am to 4pm when trucks access the rail corridor.
In Plimmerton, there will be an altered lane layout between the Plimmerton roundabout and Acheron Road on Monday night for paving works at Steyne Ave. Lane closures are also planned on Mana Esplanade between Acheron Road and Marina View on Tuesday and Wednesday during the day for reinstatement works.
In central Porirua, a northbound lane alongside the Mungavin on-ramp will close on Monday and Tuesday from 5.30am to 3pm for wastewater barrier work.
On State Highway 58 at Judgeford, between Moonshine Road and Flightys Road, an altered lane layout remains in place day and night for the SH58 project. In Whitby, stop go traffic controls will operate on Monday from 9am to 5pm between Joseph Banks Drive and James Cook Drive for tree trimming.
Drivers are urged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time and check for updates before heading out.
