Western Suburbs footballer George Green has been selected to represent New Zealand at next month’s OFC U-19 Men’s Championship in Samoa.
Green is the sole Western Suburbs player named in the 21-player New Zealand squad for the tournament, which will be held in Apia from September 1 to 14.
The Porirua club congratulated Green on his selection following what it described as a standout season, saying the achievement reflected his performances and consistency throughout the year.
New Zealand has been drawn in Group B and will open its tournament against Tahiti on September 2 before facing Fiji on September 5 and Vanuatu on September 8.
The tournament carries added significance, with the two finalists qualifying to represent Oceania at the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.
Green has been part of the Western Suburbs senior set-up and has continued his development with the Whitby-based club.
New Zealand coach José Figueira said the squad brought together players performing strongly in domestic football with others developing overseas.
Western Suburbs said it was proud to see Green earn the opportunity to represent New Zealand.
