If you’ve been driving on SH 59 or catching the train from Porirua railway station, you’ve probably seen some construction next to the carpark. It’s all part of Porirua City Council’s work to protect Te Awarua-o-Porirua harbour.

Wellington Water have been working with Porirua City Council and Downer to build a wastewater storage tank that will reduce overflows of untreated wastewater.

It’s a big project that started back in 2021. A huge amount of progress has been made and the work has been captured in photos.

Wellington Water says “A big thank you to the locals for your patience as we continue work to improve our water infrastructure to protect our people, streams, and harbour.”
