Young students at Te Kura Māori o Porirua kicked off the Try Challenge with energy and excitement this morning, joined by Mayor Anita Baker, Deputy Mayor Kylie Wihapi, and Andrew Leslie from Nuku Ora.
The event, designed to promote active lifestyles, is a collaboration between the Sanitarium Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon team, Nuku Ora, and the Porirua City Council Young People’s Fund. Students tackled an engaging obstacle course featuring giant inflatables and a crowd-favourite wet slide.

Each participant was rewarded with a medal and a healthy breakfast of Weet-Bix and fruit. “It’s all about fun, confidence, and getting active,” Baker said.
Next on the Try Challenge schedule are sessions at Tairangi School, Rangikura Middle Syndicate, and tomorrow’s events at Windley School, Porirua East School, and Glenview School.
