BizFest to spotlight innovation and resilience in Porirua business community

A dynamic lineup of speakers is set to take the stage at BizFest 2025 on 1 July, as the annual event returns to Porirua with a renewed focus on innovation, economic insight, and community collaboration.

Jointly hosted by Te Rūnanga o Toa Rangatira and Porirua City Council, this year’s theme, Kōpū i te pae – Light up the Horizon, celebrates the courage of those embracing new business ventures and the collective resilience of Porirua’s diverse communities.

The festival will delve into three central themes through keynote talks and panel discussions: the economic outlook for the region, strategies for navigating challenging financial climates, and identifying opportunities during times of change.

Among the headline speakers are Ben Taylor from Animation Research Ltd, Infometrics chief executive and principal economist Brad Olsen, and Eteroa Lafaele – software engineer, director of Fibre Fale, and Young New Zealander of the Year. More speakers are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

Te Rūnanga o Toa Rangatira Pou Ohanga Boyd Scirkovich will open the event with insights from the Rūnanga’s first Economic Development and Investment Strategy.

“We are excited to partner with the Council to bring BizFest to our whānau and community,” said Scirkovich. “We are surrounded by abundant potential here in Porirua and have unique talents within our diverse communities that thrive on the global stage.”

Porirua Mayor Anita Baker said the event is a valuable opportunity for business owners, entrepreneurs, and anyone with an interest in the region’s future.

“This will be an amazing day – what a fantastic opportunity for the business sector, which has experienced challenging times of late, to listen, share and connect,” she said.
