Long-time Titahi Bay resident Dawn McCormick, affectionately known as Mrs Mac, marked her 100th birthday over the weekend with a joyful celebration alongside family, friends, and a flurry of official tributes.

Dawn and her late husband Ken raised their family in Porirua, first on Tireti Road before settling in Lambley Road. Their three sons, Gary, Paul, and Mark, all attended Mana College, where the family became a well-known part of the community.

A passionate performer, Dawn was a founding member of the Porirua Little Theatre, which began in 1950 and operated from the historic Marine Hall in Whitehouse Road until 2012. Her involvement with the theatre was matched by her dedication to her local church and her role as a tireless fundraising volunteer.

Dawn was also a skilled painter and a longstanding member of the Mana Arts Society. She continued painting well into her 90s, and after moving to Whanganui, she maintained her artistic pursuits, with her work featured in the city’s Winter Exhibition.

Her centenary celebration brought together generations of family, including grandchildren and great-grandchildren, for a lively occasion filled with love and stories. She also received congratulatory messages from King Charles, Governor-General Dame Cindy Kiro, and the Prime Minister, along with well-wishes from around the country and beyond.
