Mayoral candidate Kathleen Filo says the success of the new Porirua Pump Track highlights the power of community-led development, and she’s calling for the revival of Village Planning across the city.
“The new Porirua Pump Track shows what’s possible when locals step up,” said Filo. “Daniel used his own skills and tapped into the talents of others, securing funding from multiple sponsors while Council provided the land. The result is an incredible resource for our kids and community.”
Filo wants to explore how Porirua can bring back Village Planning, an approach that empowers residents to shape their own neighbourhoods. “When community energy is backed with the right support, we get projects like this, lasting, meaningful, and led by the people who know their place best.”
The pump track, a collaboration between local volunteers and sponsors, is already proving popular with young riders and is being hailed as a model for future grassroots initiatives.
