Preparation work has started at Bedford Reserve for the new Cannons Creek Library, with noticeable changes already taking shape around the site.
The existing gazebo and seating area have been moved closer to the carpark entrance, ensuring the space remains accessible for public use throughout and after construction. A flying fox previously located in the reserve has been safely removed and placed in storage until it can be reinstalled at a future playground site.
New fencing has been erected around the area, and a dedicated entrance has been created to manage access to the reserve during the construction period.
Porirua City Council is leading the development, aiming to deliver a modern and inclusive community facility. Council representatives have encouraged residents to stay involved and look out for upcoming opportunities to provide feedback.
“This is an exciting new space for the community,” a spokesperson said. “We’re looking forward to sharing more and hearing from locals in the months ahead.”
The library project is part of a wider investment into Cannons Creek and is designed to better meet the needs of the growing local population.
