Work will begin next week on new changing cubicles at the north end of Aotea Lagoon, aimed at improving facilities for families using Porirua’s popular splash pad.
Porirua City Council says contractors will start the upgrade from Monday 2 March, focusing on the public toilets at the lagoon’s northern end in Porirua.
The project includes a refresh of the existing bathrooms with a general tidy-up and new paint, alongside the construction of dedicated changing cubicles for splash pad users.
Council says the toilets will remain open for public use as much as possible during the work. However, temporary closures may be needed at times.
When the northern facilities are closed, the nearest alternative toilets are about 350 metres away at the southern end of Aotea Lagoon.
The council has thanked residents for their patience while improvements are carried out, saying the upgrades are part of ongoing efforts to make the space more functional and welcoming for whānau.
